Scales defined

Scale is simply a dimensionless ratio of model size relative to real size.  The scale of 1:50 is the most common for construction machinery models which means the real machines are 50 times larger than the model.  If the model is 1 foot long, the real machine is 50 feet long.  On this list, we drop the "1" and print 50 for 1:50 scale models. Popular scales from largest to smallest:

16       Ertl farm tractors
18       Large scale cars – Solido, Ertl, Burago
22.5     G LGB trains
25       Promo cars, plastic vehicle kits, cars, large scale construction equipment, Franklin & Danbury Mint cars
32 3/8"   I(one) Marklin trains, Britians soldiers and farm models
35       Used often for smaller sized construction equpment machine models such as tractor loader hoes & telescopic forklifts
43 9/32"     Most diecast cars – Corgi, Dinky, Brooklyn, Solido, etc.  These are often used on O-guage railroads
48 1/4"   O Lionel trains
50       Construction equipment models and trucks
64     S Winross trucks, Ertl farm tractors
72       Airplane models & kits
76     OO Hornby trains
87     HO Vehicles, buildings, and figures for HO scale trains (Wiking, Herpa).  This is the most popular scale for railroading and is also a popular scale for vehicles and construction equipment models.
